This last Saturday I joined in for the latest of many shoot-a-set days organised by Chris at Trident Studio that I have participated in over the last three years. The concept behind them is fantastic, providing the opportunity to shoot a range of distinct and stunning looks and styles (I have shot everything from simply lit art nudes to vivid coloured lighting, spooky Halloween themed setups, futuristic looking laser projection and more) easily and for an affordable price, and the resulting images are always fantastic with Chris providing fantastic lighting setups and customising setups to your preference where possible. I always enjoy working here during the many remote sessions they run and definitely recommend them.

I have worked with Chris at Trident Studio many times via their Remote Photography sessions. Some of these have been themed and a couple have been 1:1 with Chris and Amie-Jayne.

The sessions have always been super productive and when I have asked for specific set ups for the 1:1 sessions, they have been accommodated 100% and always to a really high quality.

The studio has one of the best range of lighting, lighting accessories, props and add-ons that you could ever need and Chris is a master when it comes to setting up / assisting with the lighting.

I have regularly been using this studio for approximately 18 Months. After a number of years shooting weddings and family/lifestyle, I decided it was time to indulge myself in some further learning with view to mastering some new skills in portraiture and studio lighting, of which I had little prior experience.

The studio itself has a favourable location very close to Plymouth City Centre in a busy shopping area which is handy for food and drinks (there is also a Starbucks within 50 yards, important to some more than others but worthy of a mention).

It has proved to be the perfect learning environment, spacious, tidy and extremely well equipped. The coloured paper backdrops can be quickly lowered into position without fuss. There are a number of flash-heads which are serviced by ample power points so the positioning of the studio lights never presents a problem. There are also plenty of light modifiers of various types and sizes. One of my favourite pieces of studio equipment is the highly portable parallel boom which opens up a number of lighting options not possible with a traditional light stand (You can position a light source directly above your subject).

The studio benefits from a spacious beauty room which can also be used as a private changing area. The room is well lit and ideal for use by makeup artists and hair stylists. The hourly rates are highly competitive and in my mind, you get a lot of bang for your buck. In view of this, I can highly recommend booking this studio to any photographer, whether new or established.

I was looking into a few studios around Plymouth to start my studio experience. I booked a day slot which was very straight forward and with great communication. Throughout this day we had lots of room inside and a separate changing area for the models to prepare. Help was on hand should I of needed it as I was a little unsure with the lighting rigs and was not disturbed at all throughout the day (a massive off-put if you have random people walking in and out) but everything was extremely professional!

Because of this, I made it a regular occurrence shooting here at Trident Studio as I knew what to expect and the rates were fantastic. All my subjects have loved coming into the studio and I have captured some of my best work due to the quality of equipment supplied from within the studio.

If you are looking to capture some of your best work, I urge you to book in now and you will not be disappointed!! I cannot wait for the next shoot!!!

I do prefer to shoot in person but living in the North of England it is a bit far to travel to Trident, but I have found that the remote shoots offered by them are excellent value for money. Themed, styled and well organised, I have taken part in a few over the last year or so and enjoyed them all. Always a pleasure to meet up with Chris and Amie even if it is remotely. Who knows, I may even get to the studio in person one day!

I was lucky enough to win two hours of free time at Trident Studio in a raffle on Saturday (thank you again!). This was my first time at the studio after hearing all the great reviews, and it certainly lived up to expectations. The studio was spacious and well equipped which made it easy to get on with shooting the images we wanted. The dressing room was big and well lit, as well as having a changing area and large mirrors. All this made for a great experience- would highly recommend :)

I began my studio career here, in this very spacious unit with plenty of room to enable you to experiment with your creative ideas. It is located centrally in Plymouth with ample parking in the area. Also available is a superb room for your creative team to get models ready with hair, make-up and styling.

On a number of shoots I have benefited from the experience and knowledge of the staff about how to use a studio effectively. They have equipped the studio with all the essentials for creating the perfect lighting for your images.

It is very important to me that my clients have a great experience when they come to shoot with me. The studio caters so well for this with a top-rate sound system throughout and refreshment facilities over and above anything available elsewhere.

Trident Studio is well-equipped, professionally managed by photographer Chris Conway and is a conveniently situated studio on the Devon/Cornwall border in the heart of the city of Plymouth.

I very recently attended for the first time ever, two 'Portfolio Building' events at Trident Studio, which were ably led by Chris.

First impressions were that the studio is well equipped. The models Chris hired were beautiful, hard-working, capable and very easy to work with.

Chris runs a tight ship! The models were properly respected and looked after. The numerous sets were quickly constructed and both events ran like clockwork, with no issues. I was super pleased with the results I am still working through in post-production.

The studio itself is very easy to get to in the city, located near ample parking (free! depending on the time of day) and extremely close to a high street of eateries and general stores.

For me, these first two events were to give me the opportunity to evaluate Trident Studio as a place I would like to use again for private bookings as well as attending the organised events.

On both counts, I would have no hesitation booking again and if asked, I would highly recommend Trident Studio to both models and photographers.

I worked at Trident Studio during a group shoot event I was modelling for whilst on tour in the South West. Unbeknown to me at the time - it was a studio I have worked in before previously but the name hadn't clicked when in pre-shoot communications with the event organiser! Upon arriving though I remembered it as a great/well equipped space from before too so I guess this reference represents a continued recommendation which is always a good thing for models and photographers alike wanting a nice place to make pictures in :)

The event ran like clockwork and I can reassure any models who might be worried about the usual misconceptions with shooting with a group of photographers: worried about everyone shooting at once, it being a chaotic environment or simply overwhelming... Well non of that is a worry because they are managed very slick indeed! :) One-to-one shooting at all times, thoughtful technical creativity put into coming up with the sets and carefully timed shooting that is supervised professionally from start to finish.

The studio itself is very well kitted out with lighting/modifiers, backgrounds, a selection of props and a separate private changing area for visiting models. All the essentials that come to mind when you think of what a professional studio needs. :) There were certainly a lot of different looks being created during my time there simply by changing the layout of everything and doing funky things with lights to inject atmosphere into the images.

My group was a lovely bunch of people! Super friendly/down-to-earth and professional. A large element of this job involves working with people so it really does make a difference when you can chat a lot and have a good social crack in-between working. Everyone was so lovey!

So it’s definitely a recommendation from me! And I hope to be back should I wander down to the far South again! :D

I attended the Amie-Jayne Boulton Group Shoot at Trident Studio and what a great night it was with 5 lighting setups and five outfit changes from Amie.

Chris Conway was on hand to answer any question the group had and we were all allocated slots to shoot each setup. This was my first time in a studio and honestly I really found this of benefit from seeing how the lights are setup and working with the excellent Amie Boulton, the whole event was professionally run but very relaxed, I highly recommend this to anyone looking to learn about lighting, great value...

A great studio that is fully equipped with everything you need for your photoshoot. I have had the pleasure of doing quite a few shoots here now and have comfortably spent many, many hours at a time here.

Chris is very knowledgeable and has a great set of skills when it comes to photographing and lighting sets.

There are great facilities within the building and it is also a stones throw away from lots of shops on Mutley Plain.

As an MUA I use a room off to the side of the main studio where it is well lit with natural day light and has ample space for setting up kit and creating a look on a model.

If you are looking for somewhere to shoot for an hour or 10, this is your place to be! :)

Booked a 1:1 lighting class with Chris at his Plymouth studio with Amie Boulton modelling.

The 3 hours flew by, starting with the basics and covering a large number of techniques. This was a well constructed informative session. Chris and Amie work really well together, so you won't be wasting your money, if like me you wanted to get more experience in studio shooting. Oh, and got some awesome images too :D

It had been a while since I last shot at Trident as it's a long journey - but my trip down was certainly worth it. I shot first on the group shoot with Miss Ruby which was very well run, had a number of varied sets and looks, some of which I was able to pick up some tips to take away for my own shoots, all in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

As I was travelling a fair way I'd talked with Chris about doing a short shoot afterwards with someone local who I might not usually manage to shoot with and he came up with some great suggestions leading to me booking one of them.

Chris was a great help with some tips on getting the look I was trying to achieve as I was probably rushing at times to try and fit things in and not thinking things through properly.

Trident is a well equipped studio and everything I needed for my shoot was available. It's a trek for me to visit but well worth it.

First time for me at the studio. Very impressed, good space, great layout and very clean and tidy. Chris was on hand to assist with changing modifiers and make sure we had all we needed, including ironing board and iron to spruce up a creased jacket, and then left us to get creative.

Performed a remote studio shoot with model Amie Boulton and lighting guru Chris at Trident Studio; all from the comfort of my home in a completely different country (Netherlands). This amazing, eye-opening experience reveals that with a well-thought out set-up and process that Chris provided you're able to shoot remotely from wherever and get the professional results you're after.

The shoot starts off beforehand like any other shoot goes. With moodboards, discussion & planning. On the day itself, my lighting setup was ready as soon as I joined the conference call; which then allowed me to control the camera tethered to a computer. Chris makes calls for improvement tweaks throughout, and Amie was a joy to work with as a model.

Files are provided through a Dropbox link; JPEG's are shared right after the shoot so you can preview and make your initial selections with the (beefy large) RAW files being available the morning after.

A highly recommended experience 10/10 would do this again in a heartbeat.

I have rented this studio in both an hourly and daily capacity. For me, there were a few studios to choose from within Plymouth that had potential to be decent for what I needed. However, the rates were reasonable and it was along a main travel route for both myself and clients.

It is great from a business point of view, as the studio is laid out to make sure it looks like you are fully functioning from that space. Making sure you come across as professional. Fully kitted studio with staff always on hand to help or deal with any issues.

I have used this studio on many occasions as both a model and photographer, and in my eyes, there is nothing comparable to it in the South West.

As a model, the changing room is on another level with ample space and so warm in the winter months (a huge perk).

I booked a virtual/remote shoot with Amie Boulton at Trident Studio and I must say, the setup that Chris has put together is great.

I sent Chris a moodboard so he could take inspiration for my lighting for each theme and Chris certainly knows his stuff. The lighting was spot on and this made the whole shoot so easy with superb results.

Chis was able to make some suggestions to alter my lighting and tweak the vision I had to make it suitable for the studio, which gave us some excellent results and I am so pleased with the final images.

Chris emailed the JPEGs over almost immediately after the shoot and I received the RAW files a short time later.

Having used this space from its beginnings, back in 2011, I can highly recommend it to others. From the amount of hours put into its creation and up-keep, to the investments in lighting equipment and modifiers, it is truly a fantastic space to work from.

The separate prep room benefits from lots of natural light, ample room to set up whatever you need and have plenty of room left for composing the shoot around the hustle of a prep team.

Kitchen and bathroom facilities are available within the building for everybody's comfort during long shoots...you really can not go wrong!!!

I have done many remote shoots to date but was thoroughly impressed by the attention to detail provided. Starting from the setup and lighting assistance provided to the fantastic wardrobe selection.

This made the entire shoot flow so smoothly! I got so many marvellous images and will be developing them for days!

This covers two remote shoots, each of two hours, shooting the excellent Amie Boulton.

There are others offering Remote Shoots, but only a handful offering the same degree of control you get at Trident. Add to that the comprehensive facilities of the studio, and the expert co-operation of owner Chris Conway, working socially-distanced in partnership with Amie and you have a package which will be difficult to beat.

Chris has prepared some excellent training material on the set-up, and is very keen that the photographer provides both a moodboard and a lighting requirement ahead of the shoot thus maximising their creative input. The 'Bean Tin' is a particularly interesting set at Trident, and a bonus for me was getting to try out RAW images from a different, high end camera.

Great studio, very well equipped and friendly.

I have hired the studio many times and also attended events run by Chris, these are always well organised, Chris is amazing with lighting, I always look forward to these events and he always uses great models.

Hiring the studio is simple to do and it is so well equipped any project or shoot you choose to do would be covered by the range of lighting equipment available. Changing and make up room, tea and coffee for free!

Took the opportunity of a Remote Shoot with Amie and Chris, and boy was I glad I did. I wasn't in the studio, but it is really well set up and the Remote Shoot idea is genius - great use of technology making the shoot effortless and really good fun. Chris took my slightly random musings and turned them into decent lighting setups, which we could then test and tweak through Zoom. No glitches in the tech, we did three separate sets in 2hrs and within 12hrs the RAW files were available through Dropbox.

A great shoot, and certainly a unique one... thanks Chris and Amie, it was great!

The event was set up very professionally and all the photographers there were lovely.

Chris set up all the different backdrops and created some really nice set ups and the photos achieved are great!

I attended a portfolio builder session at Trident Studio with Amber Rickard and Chris Conway.

Parking was easy in a nearby street. Entry to the venue was simple enough and was greeted by Chris in a friendly, welcoming, professional manner.

Tea and coffee was provided throughout the evening. Chris was very accommodating to each individual's needs and he openly answered any questions with ease.

The evening was set out in a fair and viable way so each photographer had more than enough time and space to shoot with model, Amber. There were no restrictions for example with regards to me being the shortest as equipment was adjusted to accommodate my height, and triggers for each individual were provided.

For each set, Chris shared the recommend settings which helped save time and faffing about.

The studio itself is very well equipped to an exceptional standard even with its new renovations going on this did not disrupt the evening in the slightest.

I thoroughly enjoyed my evening and the final outcome I feel was positive and successful for all involved.

I look forward to attending another event here.

I have had a number of shoots at Trident Studio, both in groups and one to one with a model over the years. On arrival at the studio you are given a friendly welcome with the offer of a beverage. The studios are spacious and well equipped with modern studio lighting and are warm. I have always found the studios clean and well organised. The owner of the studio is on hand during a shoot to sort any problems and to give any technical advice to the photographer.

I had my first studio day at Trident Studio. The studio is amazing, really big space, loads of backdrops, infinity cove. It's very clean and tidy, the models changing area is huge with full length mirrors. Not to forget the studio has HEATING!!!

Chris who runs the studio is equally as amazing, really nice guy and always on hand to help with lights or anything the photographers or models need. I will always recommend this studio when I am working down this way.

I was introduced to the studio a year ago and haven't looked back.

Not only is the studio itself a good size, it also hosts all the lighting, backdrops, soft boxes, beauty dishes, triggers etc that you are likely to need. There is always someone on hand to help should you need it and impart their knowledge and expertise.

One of the major advantages of this studio is the large room available to clients for changing, hair/make-up etc, something that not many studios can boast.

The hire rates are extremely good and I think you'll find it hard for anywhere else to compete with prices or service. I will certainly be continuing to hire it for all of my shoots.

I've hired the studio on many occasions when I'm shooting models in the Plymouth area who are unable to travel to where I am based. The staff are very accommodating and helpful in general. The studio is well kitted out with good quality equipment, lights and an infinity curve, which is great for any set up required.

It is in a good location making it easy to find for my models. With great rental rates and the flexibility to book it for full days or only an hour or two, the studio is suitable for all.

Had a great remote shoot with Chris and Amie, I provided a mood board and nothing was too much trouble, managed 3 sets and also mixed it up with high and low key on one of the sets.

Chris's lighting knowledge is superb and second to none and Amie as always her usual bubbly self and with those great poses that make it all so much fun.

I would recommend doing a virtual shoot with Chris and when the lockdown is lifted you need to get down to Plymouth and try out the studio in-person.

Here's the thing. What you want from a Portfolio Builder type event is a few really good shots, maybe of something you've never done before, which will really boost up your portfolio. And that's exactly what you get when Chris Conway organises one. Pretty much guaranteed.

You get a model who can work solid for 3-4 hours with maybe 6 costume changes and still deliver on the last frame. You get 5-6 setups/scenes and lighting changes that absolutely work... because Chris has meticulously planned and/or scouted each one.

What you DON'T get is a load of faffing around and a 'group shoot' that descends into a 6 photographer free-for-all... because Chris just doesn't let that happen.

You get what it says on the tin. And super value for money.

Having owned my own studio, I understand the feeling of wasting money when you're paying rent, rates, etc. even when you're not shooting.

This is the great advantage of hiring by the hour. You only pay for the facility when you need it. Add to that, walking into a well-maintained, fully equipped studio, with separate beauty room and changing facilities, and you're on to a winner!

The studio itself is a fair size, almost 40 square metres (with a high ceiling), and is very versatile. A healthy selection of backdrops, strobes, modifiers (softboxes, beauty dishes, snoots, grids etc.), gels, triggers, leads and stands (including a boom and a product table) are available, with plenty of electrical sockets around the room.

The beauty room is a great addition. It is a decent size, well-lit room, with ample work surfaces for make-up artists/stylists to set up and full-length mirrors. Again, there are a multitude of sockets.

This brings me to my final point. You don't have to be a pro level photographer to make your foray into shooting in a studio. One of the staff will always be on hand to assist, should you need it.

I can't recommend this studio highly enough. A professional facility, run professionally, at affordable rates, when you need it.

Had a fantastic Remote Shoot with Chris and Amie Boulton as part of one of their remote studio days!

Before the shoot we discussed themes and a mood board and Chris sent me an FAQ / Guide which clearly explained how everything works so I knew ahead of time what we would be shooting and how :) having done quite a few of these already, Chris and Amie have turn this into a slick operation which works really well, as a photographer you can see the wider context of the set, the view through the camera, settings, and shots as you take them so the shoot flows really well and with Chris's lighting skills and Amie's amazing modelling you get incredible results! :)

Altogether a fantastically well organised, awesome, fun experience which I would totally recommend! :)

I thought it was in a good location and very equipped. Big space and the dressing room was great. Lots of room to lay things out and loved the mirrors and lights

Listening to music while shooting helps me relax and the sound system was perfect, as I could just select my preference of music to play

I have visited the studio a couple of times now. It is a great environment to work in, having everything you need for a shoot, the infinity wall is awesome and the changing room is perfect - love the beauty lights and large mirrors.

You will never be cold at Studio Hire Plymouth, with tea and coffee on the go, music playing, plenty of space and suitable equipment, I cannot think of any negatives or faults - I would give this studio 5 stars!

Already looking forward to coming back to the studio. Highly recommended!

Trident Studio is by far one of my favourite studios, teeming with numerous options in terms of light and backdrops. Chris is efficient with the equipment and knows how to make the best images from what is available and has clearly invested a lot of time, care and money into this space.

The dressing room is spacious with plenty of natural light and enormous mirrors and a dressing room with ample space for changes. There are also refreshments available, which I was offered throughout the shoot.

I felt comfortable and accommodated here. The photographers who attended the workshop were polite and respectful, with Chris on hand to advise them how to make the best of the setups provided.

I am so pleased and recommend the studio very highly. I very much hope to return. Thank you.

I had my first portfolio builder here hosted by Chris Conway - an exceptionally talented photographer.

Chris welcomed us in and was kind enough to lug my suitcase up the stairs for me and pop the kettle on once I had laid out my clothes in the dressing area.

The studio is warm, a nice big space with many lighting opportunities with his equipment and skills.

The 6 photographers who attended this sold out event were all very respectful, friendly and had an obvious passion for wanting to create art.

It was an absolutely privilege to be chosen to work at this studio and for an event with Chris, it involved 6 sets with various different lighting set ups and changes, and it was run very professionally resulting in a efficient event with lots of great images created.

Id 100% recommend this studio and the events held here, there's no doubt you'll leave with something you're proud of!

Chris is incredible at his craft. He's an exceptional photographer and a brilliant teacher. His workshops are all so different, so it's worth going to them all if you can, you'll always learn something new and come away with something different. WOW, in lockdown I have been missing my fix of model photography so I jumped at the chance to remote shoot with Amie at Trident today.

Chris has all the lighting and tech under control and helped throughout. He was happy to suggest ideas or to just carry out my instructions so ideal for beginner to pro, anyone with a laptop (ideally with webcam) can have full control of the camera and all settings. Chris will move the camera for composition and Amie - well she’s just fabulous as always!!!!!

If you have the opportunity, you really MUST give this a go.

Can’t wait for my RAWs to arrive in Dropbox later.

As a family we were made to feel very welcome and comfortable at the studio. Nothing was too much trouble. The environment was clean and equipped with the necessities needed. We felt relaxed as soon as we arrived. Chris even asked our children what music they liked to listen to and had it played throughout our photo shoot. I had done one of the portfolio builders that the studio ran and was very impressed by my previous results so when the chance to do a remote shoot became available I decided to give it a go.

I'm still fairly novice so after sending mood boards over Chris ensured the lighting needed was spot on and with Amie modelling I can't wait to see results.

I'm really happy with the session I had today, and it certainly comes a close second to actually being there, any adjustments I wanted were made swiftly and I would recommend remote shooting to anyone who can't get to the studio under current circumstances or in the future.
