One-to-One Photography Lighting Tuition in Plymouth

Learn from 20 years of professional photography experience...

Our practical lighting tuition is delivered in person at Trident Studio in Plymouth and tailored completely to your experience, interests and the type of photography you want to create.

Tuition is delivered by Chris Conway, owner and lead photographer at Trident Studio. Chris has worked as a professional photographer for 20 years, with extensive experience across commercial, fashion, portrait and creative studio photography.

This experience means you will not simply be shown a collection of lighting diagrams. You will learn how to understand, control and adapt light, troubleshoot problems and build lighting setups that produce the result you want.

Beginners can start with essential camera operation, including aperture, shutter speed and ISO, before learning how these settings work together when using studio lighting. More experienced photographers can concentrate on advanced setups, creative effects or specific techniques they want to master.

Tuition can include:

  • Manual camera settings and exposure control
  • Studio flash and continuous lighting
  • Understanding hard and soft light
  • Lighting direction, contrast and modifier choice
  • Building reliable one-light and multi-light setups
  • Long-exposure photography and light painting
  • Creative gel photography and colour theory
  • Lighting models, products or other specialist subjects

Every session is practical and adapted to what you want to achieve. You will have access to the studio's extensive range of lighting and modifiers, with guidance from Chris throughout the session.
